Life after Radar.net

June 30th, 2009 by Morgan Sherwood

Everything happens for a reason…

Let me start with the obvious: I loved working at Radar. When I initially joined the team, they didn’t have a strong voice advocating for the members within the community and it was my job to change that. My main role at the companies I’ve worked for over the past few years has been to identify what members needs were, help report issues and bugs, and most of all, listen to what people have to say. At the end of the day, we all need a voice advocating for our needs within a service we’re members of, and listening to people has always been something I’ve been good at. But for me, this isn’t just something I’m good at, it’s something I enjoy.

The Radar Community was really unlike any community I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of. These people weren’t just members I was supporting, they were my friends. People like Robin AnnSteve and NicoleStephanieShawn (just to name a few)… I connected with them not only on Radar, but outside of the community. Granted, I’ve been online for a very long time. The last place I remember making connections like these were when I ran an RPG back in High School (hey, I never claimed to be cool!) These were people I interacted with on a daily basis, IM’ed with constantly, and in many cases, had long phone conversations with them simply because we wanted to talk…

As much as it saddens me to announce this, today marked my last day as the Community Manager of Radar.net. The biggest question you’re probably asking is simply why?

From the Radar Blog:

“We have some unfortunate news to share today. In order to refocus the company’s efforts–on Radar and on several new initiatives–we’ve had to say goodbye to several members of our team today, including a few people many of you have come to know personally in the Radar community. I know you’ll join me in wishing them well.

These changes are never easy, but we remain excited about the future we’re crafting here. We’re hard at work adding new functionality to Radar and focusing on some big Tiny parternships. We’ll continue to keep you all updated.”

But again, we must remember that everything happens for a reason.

Needless to say I’ve already got a few things in the works which I hope to talk about in the coming weeks. But know that I’m doing just fine, looking at this change as an opportunity to focus on some of the things I’m incredibly passionate about, and genuinely excited for what’s coming next.

Oh yeah, and see you on Radar!

I support you in whatever you do Morgan. My feelings won’t change anything, so I won’t post them here…but you inspired me to stay at Radar most of all. Love you Morgan.
